Instagram downtime sparks mass hysteria after fears ‘hipsters are unable to eat’ following the social media crash that forced 15,000 over to Twitter using ‘#InstagramDown’

SOCIAL media network Instagram ‘went down’ today (May 10) leaving selfie-lovers without a platform to post their favourite shots.

The network crashed at around 2pm GMT, sparking over 15,000 tweets using the now trending ‘hashtag’ “#InstagramDown”.

One user joked that after the world-wide outage hipsters were no longer able to eat; another added that “the world is ending”.

Jake Humphrey, TV sports presenter, said: “With Instagram down I took the opportunity to say hi to my kids.”

The 39-year-old added: “They’ve grown a lot.”

Users were originally unsure if it was just them with issues, quickly heading to Twitter to find out.

With a quick search of ‘Instagram down’, a string of tweets, over 15,000 using the #InstagramDown will appear – warning, there’s a lot of memes.

One person tweeted: “Ah sh*t, people are going to have to eat their lunch without taking a photo of it first. Pray for them. #instagramdown”

Another said: “fix instagram asap bc I need to stalk my crush, thank you #instagramdown”

The ‘hashtag’ quickly became a trending topic, topping the 2018 World Cup, with 15,900 tweets sent since the outage.

The reason for the downtime has not yet been confirmed, the Entertainment Gazette has approached Instagram for a comment.
