Queen of the jungle to ‘lord of the mic’ – I’m a celeb winner and Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt joins BBC Radio 1 along with celeb friends for new weekend shows

BBC Radio 1 has announced a new weekend schedule for the station – Maya Jama and Jordan North have both been signed to host new weekly shows.

Scarlett Moffatt and Mollie King have also joined the station as Radio 1 DJs hosting alongside Matt Edmondson.

Scarlett said: “I’ve always loved listening to Matt on Radio 1 so to present alongside him is going to be so much fun.”

Maya Jama will join Radio 1 to host Radio 1’s Greatest Hits on Saturdays (10am-1pm), and will also co-host with Scott Mills and Chris Stark Fridays, 1-4pm.

She said: “I’m so happy to be presenting alongside Scott Mills on Fridays. I’m sure I can learn a thing or two from him and beyond excited to have my own show on Radio 1 every Saturday, I cannot wait to start!”

Matt Edmondson will become the new host of the weekend 1-4pm show, and on Saturdays he will be joined by a monthly celebrity co-host with the likes of Scarlett Moffatt and Mollie King.

Mollie said: “I’m so excited to be co-hosting BBC Radio 1’s brand new Saturday show with Matt Edmondson. He always has me in stitches; we’re going to have a blast, bring it on!”

Matt added: “I am ridiculously excited about inviting some big name co-presenters to join me on Radio 1 every Saturday.

“I can’t wait to work with Mollie and Scarlett, not to mention the ‘reveal-them-and-you’ll-be-immediately-fired’ list of amazing names we have lined up for the rest of 2018.”

Following multiple stints as a presenting duo in 2017, Dev and Alice Levine will officially join forces to co-host Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast show (weekends, 6-10am).  Celebrity MasterChef finalist Dev, and Alice who is about to embark on a world comedy tour, will be waking up listeners from 17 March.

Jordan North will host Radio 1’s Greatest Hits on Sundays (10am-1pm). Jordan began his radio career presenting on student and community stations like Preston FM and Spark FM and has also hosted shows on the likes of Rock FM, The Hits and Capital Manchester.

Jordan said: “What a great start to my 2018 – I’m absolutely made up! It’s no secret that this has been a childhood ambition of mine, so to get my own show on Radio 1 and officially be part of the family is just amazing.

“To be honest, it’s not properly sunk in, but I can’t wait to be back on air and start presenting Radio 1’s Greatest Hits.”

Ben Cooper, Radio 1 Controller, said: “It’s brilliant to welcome the next generation of superstars to Radio 1.

“Along with Maya, Jordan, Dev and Alice all starting new shows, Matt will co-present with the likes of Scarlett and Mollie, giving an exciting jeopardy to live radio at the weekend.”
