KENSINGTON Palace has said that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would like to thank all hospital staff and supporters for their "care and treatment" today during their third child's birth.
Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to a baby boy this morning (Monday April 23) at around 11am – he weighed 8lbs 7oz.
The palace released a statement earlier today stating that Kate and her new-born child "are both doing well".
The world's media gathered around the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in Central London, waiting for the couple to bring out the fifth in line for the throne.
Amid all the action, an unsuspecting couple left the Lindo Wing with their new baby, only to be greeted by the national and international press – journalist James Longman grabbed a shot of the startled looking pair.

At around 1pm The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families were informed of the future king's arrival.
The palace revealed everyone was "delighted" with the news and a notice had been placed on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace following the announcement of the Duke and Duchess' third child.

At around 5.10pm The Duke of Cambridge went to fetch Prince George and Princess Charlotte to meet their new baby brother – onlookers were shocked when the Princess gave the crowds the iconic wave.
Shortly after the Prince and Princess's arrival, a spokesman for Kensington Palace said: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge will be leaving St. Mary's Hospital this evening.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son will travel home to Kensington Palace."
The palace tweeted a photo of the Duke and Duchess with their new baby boy captioned "welcome to the family".

The spokesman added: Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have received.
"They would also like to thank everyone for their warm wishes."
