A MULTIPLE stabbing at Victoria Train Station in Manchester is being treated as a "terrorist investigation", police officers have confirmed.
Officers were called to the station on New Year's Eve (December 31) at around 9pm after a man stabbed three people – including a police officer – with a knife.
The British Transport Police (BTP) officer in his 30s suffered a stab injury to his shoulder and has now been discharged from hospital.
A man and woman in their 50s were also attacked in the incident at around 8.50pm. The victims' injuries were "serious but not life-threatening."
Chief Constable Ian Hopkins of Greater Manchester Police said: "The officers acted with incredible bravery in tackling the armed attacker.
"They ensured the man was immediately detained. He remains in custody here in Manchester. We are treating this as a terrorist investigation."
Officers have said that the investigation is being led by counter terrorism with support from Greater Manchester Police.
Constable Hopkins added: "This detailed work will continue and we are currently searching an address in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester.
"Our work will continue to ensure we get to the full facts of what happened and why it took place. Anyone with footage should send it to FIB@gmp.police.uk.
"I know that the events last night will have affected many people and caused concern.
"The [fact that the] incident happened so close to the scene of the terrorist attack on May 22 2017 makes it even more dreadful."
