She makes the discovery on the latest episode of the popular BBC programme focussed on her great-great-grandad William Williams.
"It's probably just my luck that he was one of my relatives," Gemma says of the murderer in the upcoming instalment airing later this month.
"I'm ecstatic! The macabre of it – I just think it's a hilarious story." But she later comes to the conclusion the connection is less-than ideal.
"Obviously, the murders were terrible, and I get that, but how could it be that my family were on the same street as Jack the Ripper's victim.
"You just couldn't make it up," Gemma quipped. Her great-great-grandparents lived in a house on Dorset Street in Spitalfields, East London, with 33 others.

Mary Jane Kelly's body was found in November 1888 in a property on the same street – she's thought to have been one of Ripper's victims.
Gemma was born in Romford and her mum was a fostered child, with the BBC producers tracking down Joan's biological family.
Later in the episode, Gemma explains: "I always knew there was more to me and my family. I think I'll have to do a seance now and speak to Jack the Ripper. It was such a famous street because that's where all the cloak and daggery would go on."
Who Do You Think You Are airs on BBC1 at 9pm on September 26.
