A CARJACKER who smashed into a top of the range BMW police car during a high-speed chase has been arrested in Manchester.
The thief took the silver Vauxhall Insignia from the owner yesterday evening (August 19) after a short struggle with the driver.
The victim sustained minor injuries after holding onto his car while it was being driven away, he was admitted to hospital later that evening.
Officers tracked the 45-year-old suspect to a residential street in Bury, Greater Manchester where the pursuit began.
The driver of the stolen Insignia rammed the BMW 3 Series police vehicle, causing extensive damage to the front end of the car.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: "A silver Vauxhall Insignia was reported stolen to Greater Manchester Police yesterday evening.
"It was reported stolen to police shortly before 7.30pm on Monday, August 20.
"The owner of the car was threatened before he tried to stop the robbery himself by holding on to the vehicle as it was driven away.
"In doing so, he sustained minor injuries and was admitted to hospital, where he has since been discharged.
"GMP officers tracked the stolen car and after a short pursuit, where the car rammed a police car and a number of other vehicles, was safely stopped and a man arrested.
"A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving. He remains in custody for questioning."
